Lays foundation of Indoor Sports Stadium, Says development projects worth Rs 400 cr under execution in Billawar constituency

Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said the government was laying special focus on good governance and to meet the developmental aspirations of the people of all regions of the state.    

 Dr Nirmal Singh was addressing locals after laying the foundation stone of Indoor Sports Stadium Complex, here at Billawar.

The project being executed by Jammu and Kashmir State sports Council at Naaz Ground  will be completed at  an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore in 12 months.  

 “Our focus is on good governance and inclusive development of all sections of the society. Massive developmental activities have been launched across the state with multi level monitoring mechanism for desirable results,” he asserted.  

Listing the achievements of present government, Dy CM said that works amounting to Rs 400 crore have been initiated in Billawar constituency, few of which have been finished while others are nearing completion.

           Elaborating further he said that Rs 10 crore have been provided to improve Education infrastructure, while 21 road projects are being constructed under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 160 crore in the constituency. He further informed that to improve connectivity in the area a bridge is under construction at Juthana on which the Government is spending Rs 47 crore.        

 He said to improve power scenario a Grid Station is being developed at Rampur at a cost of Rs 78 crore. 

  Dy CM further  informed that Rs 4.5 crore have been released from his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for various developmental works out of which Rs 1.5 crore have been spent exclusively on augmentation of PHE infra to provide safe drinking water  to maximum number of households along the length and breadth of the constituency. He further informed that tender for upgrading Billawar Hospital from 30 to 100 bed will be floated soon. He said the project is estimated to cost Rs 7 crore.

 Greeting the people Billawar for the indoor sports stadium, the Dy CM said that sports are an integral part of personality development and given the vast potential among youth of the District this first of its kind facility will help in grooming budding sportsmen and enable them to compete at national and international levels. He directed the concerned authorities to start protection work around the ground urgently to prevent soil erosion. He also informed that connectivity to the ground will be maintained by Urban Development Department.

The Dy CM expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for providing liberal funding to develop sports infrastructure in J&K under the Prime Minister's Developmental Package (PMDP). “Under the package  multi-sports indoor halls are coming up in all the 22 districts” he informed. He said the focus of present dispensation is on equitable development of all the three regions by way of good and transparent governance.

Earlier, the Dy CM flagged off Tiranga Yatra at Phinter, Billawar in which thousands of youth participated. The event is being held across the country as  part of Independence Day celebrations.

Later, several deputations from various parts of Billawar apprised the Dy.CM of their problems.

The Dy.CM assured them that their problems will be resolved in a time bound manner.

He directed the concerned officers to do the needful to enable the people to reap benefits of the Central as well as State welfare schemes.

Joint Secretary State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member State Sports council, Ranjit Kalra, XEN State Sports Council, R K Bhat, SDM, Rajesh Basotra and other Sub-Divisional level officers were present on the occasion.
